    Making transformation projects a reality

We were active all over the world in the past year. After all, no matter where renewable energy production is expanded, or energy efficiency increased, or investments are made in environmental measures, this has a positive impact on the global climate and the environment.

    Our milestone projects during 2024

    • New pipeline increases security of supply:
Bayernets is investing EUR 210 million in the AUGUSTA gas pipeline linking Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. KfW IPEX-Bank, Commerzbank and DZ Bank are each financing one third of the cost. The pipeline will enable the transportation of hydrogen and secure the energy supply.
    • A fair wind for the energy transition:
KfW IPEX-Bank is participating in the financing of the SunZia Wind and Transmission project in the USA with a total investment volume of USD 8.8 billion. Once completed, it will be the largest onshore wind project in the western hemisphere, supplying clean energy to as many as three million people.
    • Steelmaking goes green:
KfW IPEX-Bank is providing a loan of EUR 187.5 million to help finance an integrated flat steel plant in Sweden that uses green hydrogen and reduces emissions by up to 95%. The project will reach a capacity of 5 million tonnes per year by 2030. Key components will come from Germany and will be supplied by SMS group and thyssenkrupp nucera.
    • Sustainable computing capacity in Frankfurt:
Frankfurt is getting two sustainable data centres at a cost of around EUR 475 million, financed by KfW IPEX-Bank together with a banking consortium. The funds will support the construction of two sustainable data centres in Frankfurt, which will be powered entirely by renewable energy and are aiming for LEED Gold certification.
    • Success all round for the circular economy:
KfW IPEX-Bank is financing the first waste-to-energy plant in Abu Dhabi with a capacity of 900,000 tonnes of waste per year. The project supports the circular economy, reduces carbon emissions by 1.1 million tonnes per year and uses European technology.
    • A stable financing network for grid expansion:
KfW IPEX-Bank is arranging a financing portfolio for offshore transmission grids in the United Kingdom. The agreed sum includes a term loan totalling GBP 248 million and a revolving credit facility of GBP 45 million. Of the total amount, GBP 194 million was placed with three other banks. The project supports decarbonisation and the transition to net zero through offshore wind energy.
